Meet the LILAS Fall 2020 Interns
At LILAS Wellness, we really enjoy interacting with one another and exchanging fresh ideas to further our “for women, by women” mission. We learn so much much from our incredible interns and glean a lot from their vibrant enthusiasm and unique perspectives. They shape who we are for the better. Here’s a bit about each of them:
Rachel Edelstein, Product Development Intern
I’m a Sophomore at Tufts University studying Community Health and Spanish. Very Committed Plant Mom. Eldest Child.
How do you prioritize wellness in your life?
I prioritize wellness in my life through little things that bring me fulfillment. I would love to hike and paint and swim in the ocean every single day of my life. But we are busy, and some days my personal wellness comes in small packages — like singing in the shower, appreciating the sound of birds chirping, or talking to my plants. I find wellness when I feel like myself. I think it’s important to prioritize what grounds me — no matter how small or silly.
What is one of your go-to self care rituals?
My favorite self care ritual is journaling. I love the feeling of sinking into my own energy, and consciously making a space to reflect and grow. My journal is such a sanctuary for me, and a loving symbol of the connection I have with myself. I think it’s so important to cherish all my little thoughts and feelings — because they don’t exist anywhere else! I have found journaling to be incredibly healing, even more so as I get older.
Do you have any content recommendations (books, TV shows, podcasts, etc.)?
One of my favorite books is Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I also love the shows Sex Education and Dear White People on Netlfix.
What excites you most about the LILAS mission?
I am most excited about the accessibility of the LILAS mission. I am consistently frustrated by the elite nature of health and wellness in our culture, and how a huge part of the language and research is inaccessible to the people who need it most. I think LILAS has created a fresh and inclusive platform for women, and that means a lot to me.
Yena Jang, Marketing & Communications Intern
Pomona College Student-Athlete '24 and Boba Enthusiast
How do you prioritize wellness in your life?
Every day after dinner, I walk for an hour on my neighborhood bike trail while listening to music or a podcast! I use this time to wind down after a long day and to get a breath of fresh air. Listening to music helps me relax and puts me in a better mindset for the rest of the evening. This hour feels like one of the times I can truly be by myself to process my feelings, so I make it a priority!
What is one of your go-to self care rituals?
My favorite self-care activity is putting on a face mask and listening to relaxing music or watching Netflix! I am a skin-care enthusiast and I love trying new products.
Do you have any content recommendations (books, TV shows, podcasts, etc.)?
My favorite Korean Drama on Netflix is It's Okay to Not Be Okay!
What excites you most about the LILAS mission?
I love that LILAS is run by women for women. During my time here I have noticed how much LILAS genuinely wants women to feel included, empowered, and in charge of their own bodies. I feel inspired to take care of my own wellness and I am so happy that other women are able to prioritize their own wellbeing.
